In its survey, UBS noted that: Our CIO survey–completed in February–points toward surprisingly solid IT spending growth in '08. While we remain cautious on IT spending, the survey suggests that the spending environment may not be as dire as many think, and supports the optimistic outlooks of HP, EMC, Sun & IBM.
EDS Awarded Contract to Manage IS Environment for ArvinMeritor
PLANO, Texas and TROY, Mich., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS and ArvinMeritor recently signed a new, six-year agreement for EDS to manage the tier-one automotive supplier's U.S. and Canadian Information Systems (IS) infrastructure services. EDS will help enable enhanced capabilities, promote predictability in the system and speed ArvinMeritor's ability to change with the evolving business climate. "As we continue our transformation, we look to EDS as a partner that has extensive IS and industry experience," said Jay McLean, vice president of service delivery, Information Systems, for ArvinMeritor. "Together, we will enhance our IS infrastructure to one that is optimized for scale and reliability as we face the challenges of today's marketplace." With the agreement, EDS will assume responsibility for ArvinMeritor's IS infrastructure, which includes consolidating and hosting its midrange servers and mainframe computers in EDS data centers.

New ripening cultures add flavour to low-fat cheese
The Danish ingredients group developed the new cultures to meet rising demand from a growing category of low-fat dairy products. The culture blends - CR-530 and CR-550 - work by speeding up the breakdown of compounds during the cheese ripening process that typically cause a bitter taste in low-fat cheeses. In full-fat cheeses, the taste of these compounds are masked by the fat, explained Nanna Borne, marketing manager at the firm's Cheese Cultures division."One of the big problems with making low-fat cheese has been the bitterness," she told FoodNavigator.com. "You can taste the broken down peptides and amino acids.""The new ripening blends speed up the process so that the compounds are already broken down to something you no longer taste."The cultures are included in Chr Hansen's Flavor Control CR-500 series and targeted at producers of low-fat variants of traditional yellow cheese with high moisture content, such as Continental, Gouda and Cheddar cheese.

Wabasha-Kellogg grad Sanders hopes to break through for NDSU
Eric Sanders doesn't plan on missing nationals this year.The 2003 Wabasha-Kellogg graduate and current senior wrestler for North Dakota State University will be one of the top seeds in the Western Regional Tournament on March 8.
Sanders, who is one of three wrestlers in Minnesota to win five high school state titles, has just one loss in the region and could be the No. 1 seed."He's one of the top two wrestlers in our region," NDSU coach Bucky Maughan said. "I think he has a good shot at winning it or getting second and having a chance at the wild card."Sanders, who wrestles at 133 pounds, is having the best season of his career this year at 21-11, including winning 10 in a row before suffering a loss last weekend. His career record is 72-51."It's my senior year, so I want to do the best I can," Sanders said.
