Ellen DeGeneres Gets Emotional

ET has the latest...

ELLEN DeGENERES turned serious during the taping of her show today as she spoke about the murder of LAWRENCE KING, a California boy who was shot on February 12 by a male classmate after King asked him to be his Valentine.

"Larry is not a second-class citizen," Ellen said during the show set to air today. "I am not a second-class citizen. It is okay if you are gay."

Ellen went on to say that she feels a lot of hate stems from jokes, movies, speeches and other parts of the media, which she says needs to stop. "All of it is unacceptable," she said. "Laughing at someone because he's gay is just the start of it."

She says it's time for a change. "To be gay you can get killed for it ... we need to change the message."

Running AMD Catalyst 8.2 with Intel Skulltrail on Asus' 3870X2

The "internal" driver that detected them fine in Crossfire at the setup stage crashed every time with "driver entered infinite loop" blue screen error: same nasty message on both boards. However, the internal driver did give us some nice 3Dmarks nevertheless.

Then, just last week, the Catalyst 8.2 driver series appeared - eager to test if QuadfFire works, we ran it - but no success with two cards: the driver just refuses to register the second one. However, it did improve the performance of a single HD3870X2 card on the Skulltrail, creating some very high 3DMark06 scores in the process.

We ran the old driver with dual default 3.2GHz CPUs, then the new Catalyst at the same CPU speed, and finally upped the CPU speed to dual 4GHz. We didn't overclock the Asus graphics card's memory - it can go to 2.1GHz easy usually.

So you got Drudged? Did you make any money?

A tornado or hurricane rips through your town. Or a crazed gunman opens fire at a nearby school or shopping center. Or an Interstate highway bridge collapses.Whatever, the news in your backyard can suddenly become the focus of public attention all over the nation and world – and the doorway to the big news could be your online newspaper. And for 24 to 48 hours your Web site will become one of the busiest news sites in the world. Your page traffic might increase 10-, 20- or even 100-fold.Sounds wonderful, right? Not necessarily. Some online newspapers, such as the Omaha World-Herald during a recent mall shooting, can’t handle the traffic and suffer embarrassment. But even if all goes well technically, what’s the business proposition for the newspaper that provides the news coverage to the world?"How to monetize windfall Internet traffic" was the subject of a session at the NAA’s annual Marketing conference in late February."Everything happens so fast," said Al Gibes of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, "that there’s no real way to sell more advertising.

Six more locations eyed for Hawaii coffee chain

A prospective franchiser is in talks with Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii to open six locations in the Albuquerque area, a representative of the company confirmed.

There is one New Mexico location, near the intersections of Highways 550 and 528 in Bernalillo, north of Albuquerque.

The deal could be signed within 15 days, says the beverage firm's representative, Harold Hill, who heads up franchise sales for the chain.

It costs an average of $226,000 to open a 1,500-square-foot shop in the U.S., according to the company's Web site. Drive-through windows add an additional $8,000 to that cost.

Cornell on the rise after clinching second Ivy title

That was never more evident than in a 72-71 victory at Harvard in mid-February. Crimson guard Jeremy Lin, a 25 percent 3-point shooter, made a 3 with 42 seconds remaining to give Harvard a 71-66 lead. Undaunted, Cornell sophomore Alex Tyler, who had committed a turnover with just over a minute remaining, made a putback, a hook that drew a goaltending call, and a layup in a 25-second span without a timeout.

''Not only do we win it in regulation, we win it with three field goals,'' Donahue said. ''The guys don't panic and throw a garbage 3 up there and get lucky. It was three executed plays. They did a terrific job of staying poised.''

That has seldom been the case. Since coach Mike Dement's 1987-88 Cornell team went 17-10 and 11-3 in the Ivy League to earn the school's second NCAA tournament bid (the 1953-54 team won the Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League and the school's first NCAA berth two years before the Ivy League formed), the Big Red had just two winning seasons until going 16-12 and 9-5 in the Ivies in 2006-07 under Donahue.

Obama and Clinton vie for blue-collar voters in Ohio

Funny, the emphasis on this photo is on Hillary and Obama, but I wouldn't be surprised if the source was really some dirty tricksters of right-wing nutcases in the Republican parts trying to divide the Democrats, and if so it sounds like they've been successful. Too many dirty tricks - I am weary of it, like many of us in the public who are just looking for good leadership and resolution of the problems that we face. That is why Senator Obama's message resonates so much with us. As I've followed the campaigns, I see him behaving the most honorably and graciously of all. He is a Christian who quotes the most Christian of all principles, which is to be your brothers/sister's keeper (essentially to care for each other) and his message of hope is so important in our world today. I'm also glad he has some Muslim roots because I think that will give him an edge in majority Islamic countries where he will be listened to and respected more because of that.
