Hugh Jackman Digs For Dessert

But as a writer, I just haven't learned how to express myself in a couple of sentences or less even though I realize, that is the type of communication that is most prevelant across the internet. But just because that is the way most choose to "talk" with one another, that doesn't make it the ONLY way. I think we have been given an extrodinary opportunity to communicate with one another across this great, big world, so when one chooses to do so with more words than some deem necessary, some feel the need to put them in their place. But the thing is, this site (and many others) allow for long posts. It must okay to actually try to communicate ideas or else it would only be possible to communicate in a paragraph or less. That's how the internet would be set up.

As for rose colored glasses… Sorry.

National security bona fides

Last summer, the media viewed her as "unstoppable." Well, the media was wrong both about Mrs. Clinton and about Mr. McCain. Yet, the journalists rarely smarten up.

Today they suffer what might be called divided euphorias. Some are euphoric about a freshman Illinois senator with no other experience in national government. Others are euphoric about a two-term New York senator from the most scandal-plagued presidency of the 20th century, who in her advanced state of obliviousness asks the electorate to admire her "experience." She actually ran an ad recently inviting the electorate to ponder telephones ringing in the White House "at 3 a.m."

Most Americans would rather not be reminded of what went on in the Clinton White House after hours and occasionally even during working hours.

Gov's name comes up in first 10 minutes of Rezko case

It took only about 10 minutes for Gov. Blagojevich's name to surface in the corruption trial of Tony Rezko.

In the prosecution's opening statement today, Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie Hamilton told jurors the Rezko case focuses on a violation of the public trust orchestrated by Rezko and Stuart Levine, a member of two state-government boards over which Rezko held considerable sway.

Real Madrid's 29 seconds of madness could prove costly

When a goal is scored in Spain, as in many a Latin country, the commentators come into their own. "Gooooool!" they shout into the microphone, stretching out the word like a tenor holding onto a top note for as long as breath will allow.

Late on Sunday in the Bernabéu stadium in Madrid, the poor guys had to do it twice in half a minute. No sooner had they exhausted the larynx on a Real Madrid "Gooooool!" that was disallowed than the ball was in the net at the other end, and Getafe had scored the most audacious winner of this or many a year.

February is much too early in a 10-month season to speak of a league being won or lost in half a minute of madness but this will take some beating.

There were 29 seconds between the referee, Arturo Daudén, annulling Madrid's goal for offside and Getafe racing the length of the ground to score.

Laws of Life Essays Part 2

To me, that's a hero. You're my hero. Grandpa, you were a fighter. I want to thank you for fighting for our country, in the Korean War. You were injured, and received a “Purple Heart". You battled from war to cancer. I don't know how you fought for so long. Everyone hated to see you suffer the way you did. But you held on. You were suffering and we were all suffering with you. I only had one Grandpa my whole life, I never got to meet my other one. I heard he fought with the same exact thing as you did. I bet you're talking to him right now. I never did want to lose you, but I'm so happy you are in such a better place then all of us. You were one man who was truly happy to be alive, and to live life. You lived life to the fullest. And you taught each one of us exactly how to do that. You were a believer, Grandpa.

Hooper cautious over ground share

Chippenham Town chairman Derek Hooper says a potential groundshare between the Bluebirds and Trowbridge Town is far from agreed.

Hellenic League Division One West outfit Trowbridge are looking for a new temporary home while they build a new stadium on Bradley Road in the town.

They are waiting for planning permission from West Wiltshire District Council and will need a home for two seasons.

But Hooper has distanced himself from any speculation about an agreement, despite Trowbridge hosting Cheltenham Saracens at Hardenhuish Park on Saturday.

"It is a long way from being anywhere near tied up," said Hooper.

"It is still in the melting pot because the two leagues have got to agree it, the Wiltshire FA have got to agree it and, at the moment, the Wilts FA are not looking terribly hopeful."

Kessler livid after same-sex legislation hits House floor

But within 24 hours it was yanked off the special, or active, calendar and dispatched to the regular one, essentially killing it for this session. An insider told The Register-Herald that a head count revealed as many as 35 Democrats would have voted against and a like number of Republicans were opposed.Kessler, D-Raleigh, who keeps a huge, well-read Bible on his East Wing office desk, raised the specter of employers forced to hire an HIV-positive job applicant in a sensitive work environment such as a dentists office. But Chairwoman Carrie Webster, D-Kanawha, ruled him out of order and wouldnt let him talk.I want a point of order on you! Kessler shot back, and then Webster slammed down the gavel to silence his line of questioning. My son is a dentist, a livid Kessler said afterward. He hires several hygienists.

March 2008

Some new news to share about autism today. At a press conference this morning, a Georgia family will describe how the government has conceded that a vaccine "contributed" to their daughter's autism symptoms. The family will receive compensation from a federal vaccine court. That doesn't mean the federal government agrees that vaccines cause autism (click here for more on autism). Nor does this 9-year-old girl's case mean the 4,900 other families in the vaccine court have won their claim that vaccines resulted in their children's autism. That case continues.Advocates who see a vaccine-autism link point to Hannah Poling's case as a big victory for their cause - evidence of the potentially disastrous side effects of vaccines.Within 48 hours after receiving her vaccinations, Hannah, then 19 months old and by all accounts a normal little girl, developed a high fever, inconsolable crying and some signs of regression, including difficulty walking and speaking.Over the next several months, she had countless visits with doctors finally culminating in the diagnosis of encephalopathy with features of autism spectrum disorder.
