I know you thought Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds got married last weekend, in a posh ceremony on a island off Bora Bora, but you were mistaken. Their nups may have been fancy and fabulous -- but they weren't legal.

In the Unites States, an international wedding is only recognized if the ceremony adheres to local laws in the country it takes place. Bora Bora is under French law, which stipulates a wedding is valid only if the couple has been in the territory for 30 days (they hadn't) or if they are married in a town hall by a mayor (they weren't).

Tracey's rep said that the couple's island party "was a ceremony to bind Eddie and Tracey spiritually" and that they would make it legal when they got back home.

I think this is great news for Tracey -- she still has a chance to change her mind and run for the hills.

Liberia: President Johnson-Sirleaf Evades TRC

Victims and perpetrators have gorged out their experiences, but those who commanded the forces of rebellion and bear the greater responsibilities are yet to dignify the Commission by appearing and testifying.

Although President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has reiterated her support for the TRC process, comments made by her Tuesady morning during her regular "Talk with the President's radio program, indicate that she is not prepared to submit to the TRC process and tell her people what she knows about the war and the period dating to 1979.

She says she does not want to make the TRC a spectacle. The Analyst looks at the President utterances and their implications.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf gave a shortcut response to a question as to whether or not she would appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and tell the Liberian people and the world what she knows about the 14-year war and the events before it dating to 1979.

He’s not the best, but Bush not worst president either

Many will debate Mr. Bush's place in history in the year ahead. If commentary from recent years is any indication, the consensus will not be good. Indeed, many will proclaim him to be the worst president of all time.

Such talk is silly for two reasons. First, pitting the presidents against each other in the search of some overall performance quotient is a horribly inexact science. Second, any assessment of Mr. Bush's legacy at this juncture can be nothing but tentative.

Most of us (including yours truly) are not history majors. Many people, including those who say Mr. Bush is the worst president of all time, could not even come close to naming each of the White House's 42 occupants. And if they can, far fewer still could spend more than five seconds talking about the accomplishments and records of guys like Millard Fillmore and Benjamin Harrison.

TaylorMade-adidas Commercial Shoot

Monday was one of the most remarkable days I've seen in my years of covering golf. I spent the day at Mountain Gate GC in Los Angeles where TaylorMade-adidas had rented out the course to complete a wide array of work for its advertisements. There were photo shoots, television shoots and internet tapings for a number of different products. A stable of TaylorMade pros were on hand to pose and smile and hit shots for the cameras. They were moved from position to position to position through a long day.

That included Mike Weir, Jason Day, Justin Rose, Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia and Sean O'Hair. (My timing wasn't great on this one – Natalie Gulbis and Paula Creamer were here a day earlier.)

I drove around with Richard "not a guru" Sullivan of the Canadian TM office and as we sped along, we saw Goosen taping something for the internet, then O'Hair doing a television commercial for the ball.

Apple iPhone Event

This is Jason Snell reporting live from the Town Hall theater on the Apple campus in Cupertino. The room is filling up with members of the media and analyst communities, music is playing (Mike Doughty's “27 Jennifers," if you must know), and we've been told to silence our cell phones under penalty of death, or at least very stern looks from Apple PR representatives.

10:01 PT: Steve Jobs walks onstage. “We're really excited to share some great news with you about the iPhone software roadmap… We've got some really cool stuff to announce, so let's get on with it." Now here come the iPhone statistics, based on the first eight months: In just eight months, the iPhone has garnered a 28 percent market share, second only to RIM (Blackberry), based on Q4 data.

US mobile browser usage: iPhone 71 percent of market share.

Defense, ha! Playoffs reward playmakers

The folks in Warner Robbins need to troop right back to church and take up a collection to build a monument to Marques Ivory right in front of the school. That was a Hall of Fame performance if ever there was one. Still, one hopes the Ware County coaching staff was paying attention. Sunday morning a neighbor of mine who is casual football fan spotted me walking the dog and came flying down the driveway with one question: "Were the Tucker coaches completely brain dead in the second half?" Knowing Ivory's mobility was probably limited, the Tucker defense made no effort to force him to move choosing to sit back in that 3-4. If Ware County can get some pressure on him they have a chance; if they let him stand back there and throw darts they're just as dead as Tucker. I won't spend a lot of time talking about the Wing-T.

Domestic Spying

Cenk Uygur: Why Do You Need Immunity If You Haven't Broken the Law? (1 comments) The Bush administration is desperately trying to get immunity for the telecom companies inserted into the next wiretapping bill. But let me ask a simple question - why would the telecom companies need immunity if they didn't break the law? I'm not trying to be clever here. I'm asking a literal question. Isn't this an obvious admission that the administration did ask the large telecommunication companies to break the law ?

Tuesday, October 9:

Dave Lindorff: What are Progressives Waiting For? (8 comments) The Democrats have made it clear: They're not going to end the war, and they're not going to impeach. They're not even going to stop the spying on Americans. How much more abuse do progressives plan to stand for?

New York Times Goes to Great Lengths to Discredit 'Splendor'

It also presented an extremely inaccurate picture of the audience response to the show itself, focusing on the specific group chased down for interviews.

The article periodically dropped in negative comments the reporters had collected, including one from a Chinese man simply named "Steven" and another from a Chinese immigrant from Dallas who was unnamed.
