| Malware writers exploring Software as a Service model
The business of writing, buying, and selling malware has become increasingly commercial over the past few years, but a new report from online security firm Finjan sheds light on just how mainstream the crimeware business has gone. Earlier this month, the company discovered a small, standalone application gathering data on over 8,700 servers, including web sites from 2,500 North American companies and a handful of sites in Alexa's top 100 ranking. Potential buyers were able to log into the malicious server hosting the data-gathering service and evaluate any given web site's size and Google Page Rank to decide whether or not the site's FTP information was worth purchasing or not. The concept of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is nothing new, but this is the first time anyone has organized the purchase of FTP login credentials, with additional tools available to help a buyer confirm he's making a smart purchase.
Adsense - The Powerful Passive Income Generator
Webmasters have a revolutionary new method of collecting income from their websites. Whereas in the past advertising revenue was reserved for those sites with large a coming and going of visitors, now even teenagers are making a quick buck with their online hobby blogs. People place adsense on their online family photo albums, their blogs and their business sites. The minimum you would get, even with a small amount of traffic, is for adsense to pay for your hosting costs. Adsense revolutionized the world of paid advertising; banner advertising is based on the number of visitors you attract to your site, so the number of banner impressions dictates the revenue you receive. Google Adsense is quite different; it is the number of visitors that actually click on the advertising that determine how much you earn.
NORM: Knievel pal recalls rapper's shooting
One more Evel Knievel story from his Vegas days with buddy Joey Battig. They were riding in a limo with dates after attending the Mike Tyson-Bruce Seldon fight on Sept. 7, 1996. The limo was heading eastbound on Flamingo Road and was about to pull into the driveway of the Maxim Hotel (now the Best Western), where Knievel lived in the penthouse. "Michael Jordan's limo was in front of us," Battig said. "All of a sudden we heard about six loud pops and Evel said, 'Those are gunshots, hit the floor.'" .
2 editors' online journal gives new life to literature
The Wiegers hire is the equivalent of the Giants signing Barry Zito. The publication also includes original nonfiction, classic reprints, place-oriented tales called Readers Narratives and a First and Second Looks section of excerpted novels, stories and nonfiction. A symbiotic life Like many couples who have been married for 20 years, Edgarian and Jenks finish each other's sentences and even sometimes speak in unison. But their work relationship is even more symbiotic. Not only do they edit the magazine together, they tend to edit manuscripts in tandem, formulating what Jenks calls the "ideal version of the work." Having two editors is most writers' version of hell, but those who work with Jenks and Edgarian seem to be grateful for the critical double-blast.
Atlanta Music Scene
With Roth, what you see is what you get: a middle-aged man in tight leather pants prancing around for much of the show in embroidered jackets that were probably stolen from the Sgt. Pepper. He twirled the mike stand like an oversized baton and attempted a few leg kicks — but not too many. He does look better than most rockers his age. (See Mike Reno of Loverboy.) His vocals served the songs just fine most of the time even if the sound mix meant you couldn't understand him half the time. (And if you know the lyrics already and are singing along, who cares?) Eddie was better during his last visit to Atlanta. To make matters worse, during his extended guitar solo, the sound went out partway through, diluting what is often a highlight of any Van Halen concert. Even after he got his sound back, the mix was confoundingly bad during the final pre-encore song "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love." The guitar was too loud and Roth's vocals were swallowed up.
UK : Man Admits Plotting To Behead Muslim Soldier
Adam Mussa of the Muslim Brotherhood-founded Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) claimed: "Some of the people arrested are just individuals with loud voices, who are vocal about various neighborhood issues, but that doesn't make them terrorists. It's not fair. This seems to be happening again and again. This is a form of victimization and your average 'Mo Public' is feeling very cynical. When you come in and do a job you should make sure you clean up after yourself, and that's what the police need to do here." The raids happened as there had been intelligence that a cell of British Islamists had planned to kidnap and behead a Muslim soldier. A particular Muslim soldier had already been targeted, and was under protection. It was revealed shortly after the arrests that he was a corporal in military intelligence, chosen from a shortlist of 25 individuals Adam Mussa justified his hostility to the Birmingham raids by ridiculing the notion of such a plot.

Meredith Kercher's funeral held
Kercher, an exchange student from Leeds University, was found semi-naked with a deep cut to her throat. Her brutal death made international headlines after prosecutors revealed their belief that she was killed because she refused to have sex with one or more attackers. It also resonated with European students as thousands of young people like Kercher study under the Erasmus exchange programme. Perugia is a choice destination. A suspect in her murder, Rudy Hermann Guede, a 20-year-old man from Ivory Coast, was extradited back to Italy earlier this month from Germany, for questioning over the murder. Police say they had found fingerprints matching his on Kercher's pillow, which place him at the scene of the crime. He left Italy for Germany after the killing and was arrested there on November 20. A walk down the Yellow Brick Road of Malaysia's Corridor of the future
We are now three days away from the big day for Malaysia's General Election. I've been watching the electronic press and the blogs this last week to see how much of an influence the "E" factor is going to play in this election as far as disseminating of information, spreading gossip, mobilizing people and, of course, campaigning for votes goes. I've also attended a couple of ceramahs just to see how quickly the news/info gets disseminated onto YouTube, and how much of a part YouTube is playing in terms of getting information or messages across. Dear Prime Minister... One big "E" splash that was made during campaigning last week was the launch of the Prime Minister's feedback Web site called warkahuntukpm.com.my, which was launched March 1 with much press and publicity. The concept behind warkahuntukpm.com.my is this: Write to the PM and tell him your issues, and he'll look into the matter.

And the Johnny Goes To...
If David Stern could only figure out what in the world to do about the Knicks... Best Story in College Basketball: Drake. My apologies to Bruce Pearl and Tennessee and Steve Donahue and Cornell, which is 10-0 in conference play and about to become the first school other than Princeton or Penn to win the Ivy League since 1988. Drake hasn't been in the NCAA Tournament since 1971, and Coach Keno Davis, who took over this season from his dad, the great Dr. Tom Davis, has the team at 24-3 with two one-time walk-ons, one handles the ball on every possession while the other leads the Missouri Valley Conference in rebounding, leading the way. Drake-Butler on Saturday was a much better game to watch than Memphis-Tennessee. Team Everyone Will Try to Schedule Next Season: New Jersey Institute of Technology.
TurboTax, TaxCut court Mac users with new versions
Good news, tax procrastinators—since this is a leap year, you have an extra day to put off filing your 2007 taxes. The bad news, of course, is that even with 24 more hours to table your taxes, you'll still have to finish the job eventually—that April 15 deadline isn't going anywhere. With February soon giving way to March and bringing us another calendar page flip closer to the filing deadline, it's time to pick a program for preparing your tax return. Fortunately, the makers of tax-preparation products have updated their offerings to reflect this year's ever-changing tax laws and to add features aimed at making this annual chore more efficient. For Mac users, the leading providers of tax-prep software are Intuit, with its TurboTax product line, and H&R Block, which makes TaxCut.
