SonicWALL Expands Horizons With New E-Class Initiative Signaling ...

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL) , a leading secure network infrastructure company, today launched a new initiative intended to accelerate SonicWALL's ongoing move into the enterprise market. The broad-based global initiative is based around SonicWALL's E-Class solution set, a premium-performance line of secure networking, email security and remote network access offerings engineered to drive down the cost and complexity of deploying a secure infrastructure. Igniting this initiative, SonicWALL today launches a new family of multi-core processor firewalls that combine enterprise-class protection and performance in a single appliance: the NSA E7500, the NSA E6500 and the NSA E5500.

As the cybercrime economy continues to flourish and threats become harder to detect, security is now a mainstream focus for all network administrators.

Police warning over new key-logging 'Trojan' spam emails

Police are warning internet users about 'Trojan' emails containing links to malicious websites that can steal sensitive information such as PINs and password log-ins from vulnerable PCs.

The UK's National Hi-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU) said the spam emails contain details of a fictitious order for web hosting or computer goods and display the cost that will supposedly be charged to their credit card.

The email also contains a link to a website to view the order in more detail but if people click on the link, it takes them to a malicious website that allows hackers to steal data from their PC.

The user is presented with a site that appears to be under construction but an exploit for a security flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser allows the criminals to plant a key-logging Trojan on an unpatched PC.

TheStar.com | Sports | Grey Cup arrives at city hall

On hand to greet the Cup were a dozen fans, four times as many media and city hall's feral squirrels, which practically crawl up your leg in search of food. Amidst the fear, one was reminded of the words of Steve Coogan, "If it's between me and a crack squirrel, I will take that squirrel down. I will take that squirrel down to Chinatown."

After being marched into council chambers by an honour guard, Mayor David Miller took over. The city's first citizen relived his fondest CFL moments and almost managed to make them seem unscripted. CFL commissioner Mark Cohon the praised the city's love for "Canada's national game." In his defence, he was born in Chicago. But in his offence, I was born in Toronto and I don't think America's national pastime is hockey.

After that, Miller officially proclaimed this Grey Cup Week, which excited those fans to fits of shouting 'Go (Insert Winnipeg Blue Bombers or Saskatchewan Roughriders here)!' But when Miller finished his remarks with 'Go Riders,' the mood soured slightly.

Online Petitions Trying to Save `FNL'

Another beloved TV show is close to the chopping block. And yet again, its loyal fans are attempting to stave off the execution.

With the writers strike over, a number of shows are in limbo as network executives plot their new schedules. Most notably, the fate of "Friday Night Lights" hangs in the balance.

The hourlong drama, based on the 1990 book by H.G. Bissinger, focuses on a high school football team in Dillon, Texas. It's a deftly written (and elegantly scored) series about a small town in which football is both a blessing and a curse.

For its first season, the Writers Guild Awards nominated it for best drama series. A critic for The New York Times has gushed: "I love `Friday Night Lights.'"

Some reports have suggested NBC wants to bring back "Friday Night Lights," which was in the midst of its second season when the strike halted production.

Police: Several Leads In Auburn Student Slaying

Auburn Assistant Police Chief Thomas Dawson told a news conference Thursday that a task force including FBI agents has been formed. He says investigators are closer to solving the homicide than previously.

He would not comment on who may have been questioned or if there was a surveillance camera in the parking lot that may assist investigators.

A $10,000 reward has been offered for information about the murder of the Walton High School graduate.

Burk was found shot and mortally wounded Tuesday night on a road a few miles north of the Alabama university.

Police said about 9:00 p.m. they responded to reports of an injured female on Alabama Highway 147. When they arrived, they found Lauren Burk, 18, suffering from a single gunshot wound.

Hospital scores well in on the spot inspection

The Healthcare Commission team arrived for the inspection on January 31. The hospital received their draft report on February 11.

The hospital was being tested on its infection control techniques, its cleanliness and providing isolation facilities.

The full results have not been released as they are still subject to the potential of change, said head of nursing Kathryn Holbourn at the meeting.

However the hospital did meet all duties except for its auditing programme.

But this had already been identified and is part of the plan for 2008/09, said Mrs Holbourn.

Building an application? Do you need a BPM engine?

It contains no Java extensions or .NET extensions. Execution is based on BPEL and WSDL, with the WSDL approach to WS. BPEL Toolkit: The toolkit operates as a plug-in within the Eclipse framework and features full support for WS-BPEL 2.0. The editor provides three views of a process with differing levels of granularity. The highest-level view is a graphically-based activity diagram that represents the overall process flow; this view is based on UML activity diagrams. The middle level is a tree structure that reflects the DOM (Document Object Model) of the BPEL process. The lowest level is a syntax-highlighted text editor with browsing capabilities

Parasoft BPEL Maestro implements a WSDL-centric view of Web services. It supports Web services standards such as WSDL, SOAP, XML, HTTP, JMS, WS-Addressing, and WS-I Basic Profile.

Can Steve Jobs convince jailbreakers to walk the straight and narrow?

Posted in:

Apple Industry

So, Apple has released an SDK for the iPhone and iPod touch. Pretty soon the web will be flooded with quality apps which will be a click (and in many cases, a few bucks) away. But is this enough to convince jailbreakers (both the developers who rely on it now and consumers who have chosen to jailbreak their iPhone) to walk the straight and narrow?

See, while an SDK and new apps for the iPhone has generated some good press for Apple today, I can't help but notice that developers have managed to accomplish an awful lot without Apple's help.

Software Mac OS X Hits Record Marketshare, Continues to Chip at ...

It still has many more years to go at this rate before ever evening the OS race, but this does not detract from the fact that it is making progress, largely at Microsoft's expense. According to Net Applications, a market research firm that profiles OS market share, between December and January OS X jumped from 7.31% market share, to a 7.57% market share, a large gain for one month. Windows fell from 91.79 to 91.46, down -0.36%. To put this in context if this pace was maintained, purely in terms of a numerical reduction or in terms of relative percent reduction the two OS's wouldn't break even until 2019. Still Microsoft has to be a bit concerned about how it is slowly bleeding market share to OS X. The total gain for OS X in 2007, according to the study was 21.7%. The makers of the study were impressed by Apple's gains, particularly during the holiday season, saying in the study, "Apple's market share gains in December for the Mac and iPhone are impressive; however, for the last days of December, the numbers are nothing short of spectacular." Linux also showed modest gains, up from 0.63% to 0.67% between December 2007 and January 2008. Part of this may be due to the popularity of cheap Linux driven PCs, such as the Eee PC and the Everex CloudBook which is available online from Wal-Mart (although Eee PC will soon be available with a stripped-down version of Windows XP).
