| Doris Goodwin on Obama's Borrowings
In the days since Gerald Ford's death, so much praise has been heaped on the late president's blanket pardon to his predecessor, Richard Nixon, that you'd think Tricky Dick was Jean Valjean. These magnanimous pronouncements are a preening exercise in cost-free generosity three decades after the fact. They reflect little or no consideration of the merits of the pardon itself. No new information has emerged during the past 32 years that makes Ford's pardon to Nixon look any more justifiable; indeed, what facts have dribbled forth make it seem less so. (More on these later.) Nor can the pardon plausibly be considered an example of the bipartisan spirit for which Ford is justly, if too extravagantly, praised by Washington insiders. The pardon may have had the long-term effect of tamping down partisan warfare between Democrats and Republicans over a possible criminal trial (obstruction of justice would have been the likeliest charge), but when a Republican short-circuits prosecution of a fellow Republican, you can't call that bipartisanship.
Co-terminal Illness:Silent on frosh expansion
President John Hennessy's column in Stanford Magazine last fall advocating an increase in undergraduate students seemed poised to start a healthy debate within the University. Since then, however, there's been no new information or discussion about the proposal from either the administration or The Daily. .

It makes it the copyright holder's job to find infringing content on a site like YouTube, and to request the content be removed. "If YouTube takes stuff down when they get a notice, they're pretty much protected by the safe harbor, no matter how many people post copyrighted content," Schultz said. Despite the protections of the Copyright Act, a copyright holder can still try to sue YouTube for copyright infringement and seek damages. Nguyen said one suit has already been filed against YouTube by Robert Tur of Los Angeles News Service, alleging a video he shot of the 1992 beating of Reginald Denny was posted to YouTube without his permission and seen more than 1,000 times. Tur's lawsuit, filed in July, claims the copy on YouTube limited his ability to profit from the video by licensing it.

Cis' blog roundup - Friday
Over the course of 2 1/2-plus years of running this blog, I should get some credit for understanding how to run this blog while making it fun. I've tried drafting rules from time to time. But most of those attempts have gone by the way side. The ones Blogmeister Ken posted earlier this week are about as dead-on and simple as it gets: - No personal attacks or inflammatory posts. - No copyright violations. - No libel. And, if it isn't obvious... - No porn. I'd probably put an asterisk behind "or inflammatory posts" because some of you guys are so poisoned toward others that you believe anything they post is "inflammatory." Also, some of you believe that any dissing of your favorite political party or ideology is a personal attack. When all else fails, I fall back on the bottom-line rule here: Dave's blog, Dave's rules.
From the Editor :
He was eyeing off one of the chicks and asked me whether he should give her his number or email. I suggested email (being overseas and all) so I wonder how lucky he got or whether he actually gave a crap what I thought. And ....good old Shoaib, got to hand it to him, he knows how to pick up the ladies. He was back and forth, chatting up different babes and I must admit, the ladies seemed to be giggling like school girls when he left (probably to chat up a dozen more). .
